COSTA BLANCA (White Coast)
The luminous skies above the palm-lined harbour
of Alicante and the white houses of the villages and hamlets
along the coast not only justify the name but also constitute
the distinctive charm of the southeastern corner of Spain.
In the benign climate, sunbathing on the magnificent
sandy beaches of Torrevieja, Altea, Benidorm, Calpe, Gandia,
Denia and Javea is possible during the major part of the year.
Travellers of the beautiful hinterland
may seek protection from the Mediterranean sun in the unique
palm forest of Elche, enjoy Murcia with its impressive eclectic
cathedral, or pay a visit to Guadalest, an old town within
the walls of a ruined castle, enthroned atop a crag. Don't
miss out on the local cuisine! The rice dishes 'arroz a banda'
and 'caldero de Mar Menor' are summits of the region's culinary
geography.
